September  7, 2015

Somewhere between plain old cereal and drawn-out weekend brunches lies the totally achievable, make-ahead weekday breakfast.

A good make-ahead breakfast always feels like a treat, is whole-wheaty or fruit-packed enough to be hearty without being pious, and you can knock it out on a weekend afternoon. Whether granolas, bars, or breads, they're our stumble-out-of-bed breakfasts of choice. Here are 15 you can make now and eat all week (or freeze, and get ahead for next week):

Not a sweet lover at breakfast as I find I need something to give me steady power through the day. Have found good bread toasted with whole grain mustard, mashed avocado, about an ounce of cheese, onion or radish or tomato or cucumber or all sees me thru without cravings or hunger pangs. Sometimes a hard oiled egg on the side. I leave the grains for lunch!

I was disappointed as well with the recipes...thought for sure that I'd see at least some quiches, casseroles or a make-ahead and freeze breakfast sandwich recipe.

Yes this was a pretty dismal little list of recipes. Granola, granola, granola, granola bars, granola bars, bars, more bars, quick bread, quick bread, quick bread, muffins, muffins, muffins. Not exciting or innovative. This list is a dud for both nutrition and variety.

Have to agree with some of the comments. If I start the day carb heavy not a good day. I definitely protein to get me going.

Breakfast encompasses so many possibilities, it's my favorite meal of the day. Would've loved to see more variety than 15 riffs on granola and muffins - which for me fall into the same category as breakfast cereal, donuts and cheese pastry. I'll try the Bulk Bin Snack Bars.

Yogurt and other excessive Sugar and Carbs as in your morning recipes. Worst things you can put in your body especially this early in the morning. Its gonna slow down your brain and body and make for a miserable morning. I guess the Big Pharm companies "Own" Food Network now.. Their profit off obesity and Diabetes is more important to Food Network the good food is. Sad... Don't get me wrong, I too love carbs and sugar but, never in the morning and never more then a 1/3 of the portion size you suggest.

Very much agree with you. I was hoping for some egg dishes, like a casserole.

Totally agree - it should be made clear that these should be occasional options but not for every day - and really the best would be to show the many healthy and yummy breakfast options there are - like me yummalicious green smoothie w/ cocoa and hemp and protein powder! So creamy and delicious, leaving me light and ready to take on the day :) Thanks for being the sane voice among the consumer society that just blindly eats, consumes, indulges ...

yes! i also agree—i think of these recipes as a safety net for mornings when i need something fast and don't want to buy something on my way to work. i'll make a big batch of muffins for my freezer or granola for my pantry and slowly chip away at them! but it's definitely nice to know there's always breakfast ready.

I've been making that zucchini breAd all summer. Would never guess that half the o is subbed with yogurt. That and granola are go-tos!
